RealzTenisFanz Podcast #21.5: Nick Kyrgios you done gone spilled all the tea

In Podcast on August 25, 2015 at 2:54 pm

We had to pull out all stops for an emergency podcast because the Tennis World done gone lost their bloody minds within the last 24 hours.  Seems like someone has to restore some sense of sanity out there so the gang is going to deal with the Kyrgios/Wawrinka/Vekic/Kokkinakis/ATP/Media drama

As a result of this incident, Kyrgios was fined $10,000 USD (the maximum allowed by the ATP rulebook for incidents of verbal abuse or unsportsmanlike conduct) and an additional $2,500 USD for unsportsmanlike conduct regarding a comment to a ball person during the match. On August 24, 2015, the ATP passed down further sanction against the Australian as they felt that Kyrgios’ comments were “was egregious and reflected poorly on our sport”

A “conditional” punishment was handed down to Kyrgios of an additional fine of $25,000 and a 28-day suspension from ATP sanctioned events IF over the next 6 months, Kyrgios behaves himself like a good lil boy and does not incur any more fines for verbal or physical abuse at any ATP tournament, and does not accumulate fines totaling more than $5,000 for any other offenses at ATP sanctioned tournaments.

Gayle David Bradshaw, executive vice president of rules and competition had this to say, “Nick has expressed regret, and the best result would be that he learns a lesson from this incident and that he understands he is responsible to the tour and to fellow players for both his actions and his words.”

RealzTenisFanz Podcast #19: The Juxtaposition and the Intersectionality of it all

We are here for a chit chat with Ben Rothenburg, freelance writer for the NYTimes about his recent piece “Tennis’ Top Women Balance Body Image with Ambition” among other things. He does spill some Tea!!!

Find us on Twitter: Realz, @RealzTenisFanz; Karen @bridgepea; Andreen @A_Gallivant and Janina @JLR78!!! Also find Ben Rothenberg @BenRothenberg.

Juxtaposition: The act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side; also : the state of being so placed

Intersectionality: Is a concept often used in critical theories to describe the ways in which oppressive institutions (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, classism, etc.) are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another. The concept first came from legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989 and is largely used in critical theories, especially Feminist theory, when discussing systematic oppression. When possible, credit Kimberlé Crenshaw for coining the term “intersectionality” and bringing the concept to wider attention.
